FEC allocates N1.99bn for CNG vehicles, $1.442bn for firearms to enhance NDLEA operations, bolstering drug enforcement and airport security nationwide.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has greenlit a significant allocation of N1.99 billion for the acquisition of 33 vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) to enhance operations at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). President Bola Tinubu chaired the meeting where this decision was made, emphasizing the government's commitment to bolstering NDLEA's capabilities.

In addition to the CNG vehicles, the council approved a procurement of firearms and ammunition amounting to $1.442 billion aimed at strengthening NDLEA's efforts in combating drug trafficking across the country. Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, highlighted these measures as part of a broader strategy to equip NDLEA with the necessary resources.

Furthermore, FEC sanctioned an expenditure of N985 million for the installation of body scanners at all international airports in Nigeria, aimed at enhancing security measures. Fagbemi reiterated the council's focus on improving NDLEA's operational effectiveness through these critical investments.
The approvals underscore the government's proactive stance in addressing the challenges posed by drug trafficking, reinforcing its commitment to national security and public safety. These acquisitions are expected to bolster NDLEA's operational capacities significantly, enabling more robust enforcement actions and enhancing security protocols at key entry points across the country.
