The meeting, chaired by President Bola Tinubu, praised the APC for reclaiming the seat after eight years. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, lauded the President’s commitment to democracy and the electoral process.
Monday Okpebholo, APC's candidate, emerged victorious with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 247,274 votes, and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), who garnered 22,763 votes. The election, described as free and fair, was recognized for upholding democratic values.
A moment of silence was also observed to honor former Minister of Women and Youth Development, Salome Audu-Jankada, who passed away on August 27, 2024. Audu-Jankada served under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Key officials attending the FEC meeting included Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and other council members.
