The Nigerian Federal Government has condemned former Minister Rotimi Amaechi’s call for youth protests over rising living costs, labeling his comments as incitement to unrest. Through Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the FG urged citizens to remain patient, asserting that economic reforms will eventually improve national stability and prosperity.

The Nigerian Federal Government has condemned recent statements by former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting unrest by questioning the lack of protests over the rising cost of living.

Amaechi, during an interview, expressed surprise at the lack of public demonstrations, particularly from young Nigerians, in response to the country’s economic challenges. He stated that he anticipated more visible reactions from the youth.

In response, Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information, criticized Amaechi’s remarks, labeling them as unpatriotic and insensitive. The government’s statement argued that Amaechi, who has held prominent public offices for decades, has benefited extensively from state resources. Onanuga claimed that Amaechi's comments reflect a "dangerous" and "hypocritical" stance, accusing him of attempting to manipulate public sentiment and incite violence under the guise of empathy.

The Federal Government emphasized that any efforts to provoke unrest would only hinder Nigeria's progress. It encouraged citizens to remain patient as the current administration implements economic reforms, which it claims will ultimately benefit the nation. The statement also suggested that Amaechi’s criticisms stem from political dissatisfaction, as he and other opposition figures are no longer in power.

The government concluded by urging Nigerians to reject calls for protests and to support ongoing efforts aimed at economic transformation, positioning these reforms as essential for long-term national stability and prosperity.
