The Nigerian government has disbursed N104 billion in student loans to 600,000 beneficiaries through NELFUND, President Tinubu announced at FUT Minna’s convocation. With N940.5 billion allocated to TETFund, the administration aims to improve education access and infrastructure while addressing university staff welfare for a stable academic environment.

President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed N104 billion to support 600,000 students, reaffirming the government’s commitment to affordable and accessible education. Speaking at the 42nd Founders’ Day and 33rd Convocation Ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Tinubu emphasized that the initiative aims to ease financial burdens and enable students to pursue higher education without barriers.

Represented by Hajiya Rakiya Gambo Iliyasu, Director of Universities at the Federal Ministry of Education, Tinubu also revealed that N940.5 billion has been allocated to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in the 2025 budget to enhance infrastructure and improve staff welfare. He reassured stakeholders of ongoing efforts to resolve issues with university staff unions and foster stability in the sector.

During the ceremony, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago pledged continued support for education and announced a N100 million contribution to an endowment fund established by Senator Muhammad Sani Musa, who himself donated N200 million. Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and Senator Musa were among those conferred with honorary degrees.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta celebrated the university’s 40-year journey in technology and innovation, vowing to maintain high academic standards. Tinubu concluded that sustained investment in education would equip Nigerian students with the skills necessary for national development.
