The Federal Government has launched the 125km Benin-Asaba superhighway, fully financed by Africa Plus Partners under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The dual-carriageway, featuring solar lighting, aims to boost economic growth. Officials highlight it as a milestone in infrastructure financing, showcasing investor confidence in Nigeria’s development agenda.

The Federal Government has officially launched the construction of the 125-kilometer Benin-Asaba superhighway in Edo State, a project fully financed by the private sector. The initiative, spearheaded under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, is funded by Africa Plus Partners, signaling a shift towards alternative infrastructure financing.

During the flag-off ceremony in Benin City, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, hailed the project as a testament to investor confidence in Nigeria’s economic vision. Finance Minister Wale Edun emphasized that the project is not reliant on direct federal funding but is backed by private investors under the administration’s enabling policies.

The highway, designed as a dual-carriageway with solar-powered lighting, is expected to boost regional connectivity and economic growth. Minister of Works David Umahi described it as a “cashless model” that showcases the viability of infrastructure development without direct government expenditure.

Edun further stated that this project aligns with the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda, demonstrating how strategic partnerships can drive long-term economic value. He assured that similar projects will be executed across the country, reinforcing transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in infrastructure development.

The Benin-Asaba highway is part of a broader strategy to enhance road networks and mobility nationwide. With this PPP-driven approach, the government aims to attract more private investments into infrastructure projects, ensuring accelerated development without over-reliance on public funds.
