The Federal Government urges over 600 newly inducted foreign-trained medical and dental graduates to remain in Nigeria and contribute to improving the healthcare sector. Health Minister Prof. Mohammad Pate appeals for commitment to nation-building, highlighting reforms and the need for compassionate, ethical, and professional service in the healthcare system.

The Federal Government has urged newly inducted medical professionals to remain in Nigeria and contribute to the country’s healthcare sector rather than relocating abroad. The appeal was made during the induction of over 600 foreign-trained medical and dental graduates by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) on November 28.

Representing the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Pate, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ms. Kachollom Daju, highlighted the need for the graduates to prioritize nation-building. “Please don’t japa. Let’s work together to enhance the image of our healthcare system and develop our nation,” she said.

The government acknowledged the significant challenges the graduates overcame during their training abroad, including cultural and academic hurdles. Ms. Daju emphasized the importance of their roles in addressing healthcare gaps in the country, calling on them to demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and integrity in their practice.

She also underscored the government’s efforts to reform the healthcare system, aiming to improve the quality and safety of care. The new doctors were reminded of the trust society places in them and their responsibility to serve with compassion and dedication.

The minister further encouraged the inductees to approach every patient with care, regardless of location, and to embrace innovation and adaptability in their careers.
