In May 2025, the Nigerian government will launch a nationwide flood awareness campaign, focusing on educating citizens about the risks of flooding and safety measures. The campaign targets 1,249 communities in 30 states and the FCT, identified as at high risk of flooding due to changing weather patterns.

The initiative, led by the Federal Ministry of Environment, aims to mitigate the devastating effects of floods, which in 2024 displaced over 740,000 people and caused 321 fatalities. Coastal states, especially, face severe risks from rising sea levels and tidal surges. The government is committed to improving public preparedness and minimizing flood-related damage.
