A fire broke out at the High Commission of Canada in Abuja, resulting in two fatalities and two individuals sustaining serious injuries. The incident, which occurred on Monday, saw the source revealing that the fire was contained thanks to the prompt response of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), preventing more extensive damage.

According to an anonymous source cited by ThisDay, the fire originated in the generator house rather than the main building, and the timely arrival of the fire service was instrumental in extinguishing the blaze, averting potentially more severe consequences. Another source suggested that the fire may have been exacerbated by the presence of a diesel tank near the generator house.

The tragic incident led to the loss of two lives, including one personnel from a generator servicing plant and one staff member of the embassy. Additionally, two other individuals suffered severe injuries and were receiving medical care in the hospital.

Efforts to confirm the incident with Damilade Kosemani, the spokesperson of the High Commission, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to phone calls or messages. The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding it are still under investigation.
