Nigerian artist Fireboy DML has shared insights into his collaboration with legendary musician Lagbaja for his upcoming album, Adedamola. Featuring notable artists like Seun Kuti, DJ Spinall, and U.S. singer John Batiste, the album aims to evoke a sense of nostalgia, a theme that resonates throughout the project.
In a recent interview snippet on Africa Now Radio, Fireboy expressed his excitement about working with Lagbaja, whom he described as a "special artiste." Interestingly, he revealed that during their studio session, he never saw Lagbaja’s face due to the iconic mask that the artist wears. Despite his curiosity, Fireboy acknowledged that the anonymity is part of what makes Lagbaja unique.
He stated, “You wouldn’t believe this; he was masked up in the studio. It was crazy—I did not get to see his face. But you know, all that matters is that we made the music.” Fireboy emphasized that collaborating with such an influential figure was an honor, adding, “Lagbaja means ‘Mr. Nobody’ in Yoruba, so it’s only right that I did not get to see his face.”
Fireboy, born Adedamola Adefolahan, gained fame with his hit single “Jealous” in 2019 and has since become a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene, earning numerous nominations and awards for his work.
