The funeral service for the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja was held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, on November 15, 2024. Lagbaja, who passed away at 56, was honored with a military procession as his remains arrived at the church at 11:17 a.m.
Prominent figures, including First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, joined service chiefs, officers, and men of the Armed Forces at the solemn event.
In her remarks, the First Lady commended Lagbaja for his exemplary service, describing him as a man who had "fought the good fight" and secured a "crown of righteousness." She offered condolences to his widow, Mrs. Maria Lagbaja, and their family.
Delivering a sermon titled “The Life of Victory,” Lt.-Col. T.E. Ogbonyomi highlighted the late Army Chief’s transformative leadership in enhancing the Nigerian Army’s operational capacity. He praised Lagbaja’s efforts to motivate the force and his contributions to national defense.
Prayers were offered for Lagbaja’s family and the Nigerian Army. The burial ceremony was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the National Military Cemetery, where President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries were expected to lay wreaths and pay their final respects.
