Fisayo Soyombo of FIJ reveals a smuggling operation involving Nigerian Customs officers, who allegedly facilitated the illegal movement of 130,000 kg of rice from Benin Republic to Nigeria. The operation, involving over 2,000 cars, is suspected to bypass customs checks, further highlighting corruption within Nigerian authorities.

Fisayo Soyombo of FIJ recently revealed an alleged smuggling operation involving Nigerian Customs officers. According to Soyombo, over 130,000 kg of rice were being smuggled from Bebe, Benin Republic, into Nigeria, with the collusion of high-ranking officials and notorious smugglers. Soyombo’s tweet on November 11, 2024, outlined a massive operation involving over 2,000 cars, each carrying at least 65 bags of rice, crossing the border unchecked and with impunity.

Soyombo claims that the rice will be smuggled into Nigeria through Sango, with cars using multiple routes, including the Obasanjo Farm Road and Ifo route. The operation, reportedly facilitated by Adeyemi Habeeb Abdulganiy, a billionaire smuggler known as Abuga, is expected to bypass regular customs checks. The journalist also suggests that soldiers from the 192 Battalion at Owode are on standby to prevent any resistance during the operation.

Nigerians on social media have expressed frustration, with many believing that the authorities will not take action despite the revelation. Some have even predicted that Customs will announce a "seizure of one million bags of rice and 25 cartons of guns" in the coming days, dismissing it as another hollow claim.

Soyombo's exposé has sparked widespread outrage as citizens continue to demand accountability from Nigerian authorities over persistent corruption and smuggling activities in the country. The situation has raised concerns about the country's law enforcement and whether the government will act on these revelations.
