A Nigerian Army Special Court-martial has sentenced former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited, Maj.-Gen. Umar Mohammed, to seven years imprisonment for embezzling $2,178,900 and N1.65 billion belonging to the Nigerian Army Property Limited (NAPL). The court found him guilty of 14 out of 18 charges, including forgery, misappropriation of funds, and conspiracy. Mohammed, who had previously pleaded not guilty to all charges, was sentenced to prison terms ranging from 2 to 7 years for each count, with some sentences to run concurrently.

The eight-man panel, led by Maj.-Gen. James Myam, delivered the judgment and stated that the convicted senior military officer was found guilty in 14 of the charges, including theft and forgery. The court also ordered him to return specific amounts to NAPL. Mohammed had been in military detention at Mogadishu cantonment, Abuja, prior to the sentencing.

The Defense Counsel requested that Mohammed be moved to Kuje Correctional Facility, but the court denied this request, pending confirmation of the sentences by the "confirming authority.
