Embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has been released from the Kuje Correctional Centre upon meeting the bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
This development follows Emefiele's recent arraignment on a six-count charge related to procurement fraud amounting to N1.6 billion.
The charges allege that Emefiele abused his position by awarding contracts to individuals with close ties to the CBN.
Earlier revelations from the special investigator, Jim Obazee, appointed by President Bola Tinubu, further pointed to Emefiele's alleged misuse of office, including claims of using proxies to purchase Union Bank and compromising processes for acquiring Polaris and Keystone banks.
Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges, and his release raises questions about the unfolding legal drama surrounding his tenure at the CBN.
