The NDLEA has arrested ex-convict Ndubuisi Udatu for attempting to traffic 2.7kg of meth hidden in loudspeakers. The Malaysian returnee was caught in Adamawa State en route to Yola, Mubi, and Cameroon. He admitted to returning to drug smuggling after serving time abroad for a similar offense.

A man previously jailed overseas for drug offenses has been re-arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria for trying to smuggle illegal substances concealed in sound equipment.

The suspect, 41-year-old Ndubuisi Udatu—also known by the alias Richard—was stopped by NDLEA operatives on Monday, April 7, while traveling on a commercial bus through Namtari, a checkpoint along the Ngurore–Yola route in Adamawa State. Upon inspecting his luggage, officers discovered two loudspeakers, which were found to contain four sealed packets of crystal methamphetamine, weighing approximately 2.7 kilograms.

According to the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the illicit shipment was reportedly destined for multiple locations, including Yola, Mubi, and parts of Cameroon. A small sum of ₦22,300 was also recovered from the suspect during the operation.

Udatu confessed to authorities that he had served time in Malaysia for similar crimes and had returned to drug trafficking due to financial pressures and lingering connections in the narcotics trade.

The agency praised its officers for the successful bust and warned that trafficking syndicates continue to evolve their tactics. NDLEA emphasized the need for transport operators to remain vigilant when dealing with passengers and cargo.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue, and legal proceedings are expected to follow shortly.
