Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai denies defecting to PDP, calling rumors "patent lies." He reaffirms allegiance to APC, vowing legal action against those spreading misinformation.

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has strongly refuted claims suggesting he has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The rumors, which circulated widely, have been dismissed as baseless and the work of mischief-makers.

Speaking through a close aide, El-Rufai emphasized his continued allegiance to the APC. The aide noted that as a prominent political figure, any such decision would have been made public, not through unverified rumors.

Taking to his verified X account (formerly Twitter), El-Rufai directly addressed the speculation, urging the public to disregard the falsehoods. He also disclosed that legal actions are being taken against those responsible for spreading the fake news.

“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” El-Rufai tweeted on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

This public clarification comes amid rising political tensions and speculations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections. El-Rufai’s firm denial reinforces his commitment to the APC as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges.

The former governor’s swift response aims to put to rest any doubts about his loyalty to the APC, while his legal recourse signals a strong stance against misinformation in the political sphere.
