The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) clarified reports suggesting that former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, had shunned their invitation for an interview.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Umar-Farouq sent a letter citing health challenges as the reason for her inability to attend. Her lawyer also briefed the commission on the health issues preventing her attendance.
The EFCC acknowledged her plea, expressing the expectation that she would comply with the invitation at a later date. Oyewale mentioned that the reported ₦37.1 billion misappropriation figure might not be accurate as investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, National Coordinator Halima Shehu of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, arrested in connection with the probe, has been released and instructed to cooperate with ongoing investigations.
