Bello Yusuf, a former Nigerian Minister of Commerce and two-time senator, passed away at 76. His family friend, Hussaini Dalhatu, confirmed the news and announced that Mr Yusuf died in the early hours of Friday in Kano. Born in Gwaram, Jigawa State, in April 1947, Yusuf had an illustrious political career. He was one of the youngest members of the federal executive council during the Second Republic, appointed Minister of Interior by then-President Shehu Shagari when he was only 32 years old. He later served in the Ministry of Social Welfare, Youth, Sports, and Culture and the Ministry of Commerce.
In addition to his ministerial roles, Yusuf was elected to the Nigerian Senate twice between 1999 and 2007. Before his political journey, he founded Quartz Integrated Services Nigeria Limited, a construction company based in Kano. He was known to have achieved millionaire status at a relatively young age. Yusuf was also a lawyer and served on the board of four other construction companies. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), his funeral prayer is set to take place after the Jumu’at prayer at the Emir of Kano’s palace. His contributions to the nation and his legacy in the political and business spheres will be remembered by many, as reported by Premium Times Nigeria.
