In a recent statement, former Governor of Rivers State, Sir Celestine Omehia, issued a blistering rebuke against the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, criticizing what he perceives as Wike's insatiable hunger for power and propensity for political theatrics. Omehia's remarks were prompted by Wike's televised interview in Abuja, where he lambasted key figures within the Rivers State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), including Uche Secondus and Sen George Sekibo, labeling them as "expired politicians and buccaneers" for their support of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Expressing his disappointment with Wike's rhetoric, Omehia questioned the motivations behind the Minister's relentless pursuit of power, suggesting that Wike's actions are driven more by personal ambition than a genuine desire to serve the interests of Rivers State or the South-South region as a whole.
"The FCT Minister seems to believe that he can continue to exert control and influence over the governance and resources of our state," Omehia remarked, "but it is evident that the people of Rivers State have rejected such attempts, thwarting the alleged impeachment plot orchestrated by Wike's loyalists within the state's House of Assembly."
Omehia further criticized Wike's track record of inconsistency and duplicity, accusing him of resorting to falsehoods and disrespecting elder statesmen at will. He pointed out what he perceives as Wike's tendency to speak from both sides of his mouth, highlighting the minister's habit of making contradictory statements that undermine his credibility.
Expressing solidarity with Governor Fubara and the support extended to him by various stakeholders, including Omehia himself, the former governor challenged Wike's divisive tactics and questioned whether his ultimate goal is to perpetuate political strife even after the conclusion of elections.
