Former Senator Shehu Sani claims insecurity was worse under ex-President Buhari than under current President Tinubu, citing fewer attacks and terrorist eliminations. Nigerians react with mixed opinions.

Shehu Sani, a former senator and prominent political activist, claimed that security challenges in northern Nigeria were more severe under former President Muhammadu Buhari than under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sani made these remarks during the 40th-anniversary reunion of the '84 set of Kagara Old Boys Association at Ahmadu Bahago Secondary School in Minna, Niger State.

Addressing the security situation, Sani emphasized that while the current administration still faces significant challenges, the situation has improved compared to Buhari's tenure. He highlighted that many top terrorists have been eliminated, and fewer attacks on schools and other public institutions have occurred under Tinubu. He noted several high-profile attacks during Buhari's administration, including incidents at Greenfield University, Government Science College Kagara, and Federal Government Girls’ College Yauri.

Sani supported the temporary relocation of Government Science College, Kagara, due to past attacks but urged the school to return to Kagara once security improves. He lamented the destruction of educational infrastructure by bandits and terrorists, stressing the importance of education for northern Nigeria's future.

Nigerians reacted strongly to Sani’s comments. Some accused him of sycophancy and seeking favor from Tinubu, while others acknowledged the comparative improvement in security. Critics pointed out that security under both administrations remains unacceptable and called for a unified approach to tackling the nation’s security challenges.
