The government of Sierra Leone has placed former President Ernest Bai Koroma under house restriction following his questioning in connection with what the government has labeled an attempted coup at the end of November.
Despite claims from Koroma's office that he is not under house arrest, Information Minister Chernor Bah disclosed that the former president was questioned again on Saturday and released with the condition that he remains within the confines of his property.
Koroma is prohibited from leaving his home without the expressed permission of the inspector general of police.
The restriction includes limited visits from three family members and three party members until his next meeting with the police inspector on Monday.
The investigation is part of a broader probe into clashes that occurred on November 26, where armed attackers targeted military and police facilities, resulting in 21 casualties. As West Africa grapples with a wave of coups since 2020, this development adds another layer of complexity to the region's political landscape.
