The death toll from a tragic road accident in Ebonyi State has risen to four after a group of 2024 Batch C Stream 2 corps members were involved in a collision on Okposi-Amasiri Road. The incident, which occurred around 2 pm on Wednesday, involved an Enugu North Mass Transit bus, which crashed into a stationary truck along the route in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
Initial reports confirmed that four people lost their lives, while 13 others were injured and rushed to David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital in Uburu. Despite efforts to save them, two victims died at the hospital, and the remaining survivors are receiving medical attention. Among the injured, two individuals are in the surgical ward, while others are in the accident and emergency ward. Fortunately, one corps member escaped unscathed, while the driver of the bus sustained serious cervical injuries.
Medical staff at the hospital have expressed optimism about the recovery of the survivors, although the incident has sparked shock and grief across the state. The Ebonyi State government has also expressed condolences and is expected to offer support to the victims' families as investigations into the crash continue.
