On January 10, 2025, terrorists from the Lakurawa group attacked a construction site in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area, Kebbi State, killing four individuals, including three workers from a major telecommunication company. The workers were reportedly installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service when the attack occurred.

While police reports identified the deceased as three Airtel employees and one local, local sources suggested the workers were immigration staff. Authorities responded swiftly, with the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police and the Comptroller of the Nigeria Immigration Service mobilizing teams to the scene. The bodies were taken to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi. The Commissioner has deployed additional tactical teams to tackle the growing threat in the region.

Residents were urged to collaborate with authorities to enhance security and provide essential information.
