Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has bid farewell to Leicester City after seven years with the Premier League club, departing as a free agent following the expiration of his contract.

Leicester City confirmed Iheanacho's exit in a statement on their website on Friday, marking the end of an era for the 27-year-old forward, who joined the Foxes from Manchester City in 2017 on a five-year deal.

"Also leaving Filbert Way is Kelechi Iheanacho, bringing to an end his seven-year stint in the East Midlands," the statement read. "Signing from Manchester City in August 2017, the popular forward has scored 61 goals in Leicester colours, including the winner against his former club in the FA Community Shield final at Wembley in August 2021."

Iheanacho, who signed an improved three-year contract with Leicester in 2021, enjoyed his most productive season with the club during the 2020/21 campaign, netting 19 goals in 39 matches and earning the English Premier League's Player of the Month award.

His contributions were instrumental in Leicester City's FA Cup triumph in 2021, with Iheanacho scoring the winner in the semi-final against Southampton.

While Iheanacho's departure was confirmed, the club also mentioned that talks are ongoing with fellow Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium.

As a free agent, Iheanacho now has the opportunity to explore new prospects and potentially join any club without the need for a transfer fee. His availability is expected to attract interest from various clubs and leagues around the world.
