A French court has seized three Nigerian presidential jets amid a legal dispute between Ogun State and Chinese firm Zhongshan. The jets, valued at over $100 million, are under a court order until Zhongshan’s $74.5 million compensation claim is resolved. The Nigerian government has yet to comment.
A French court has authorized the seizure of three Nigerian presidential jets linked to the Federal Government, as part of a larger legal dispute involving Ogun State and Zhongshan, a Chinese firm. The aircraft, which includes a Dassault Falcon 7X at Paris-Le Bourget Airport, a Boeing 737, and an Airbus A330 at Basel-Mulhouse Airport, were seized following an arbitration award of approximately $74.5 million granted to Zhongshan due to a contract dispute.
The Ogun State government revoked Zhongshan's contract in 2016, leading to prolonged legal battles. The jets, some of which are currently undergoing maintenance, cannot be sold or moved until the debt is settled.
This seizure adds to the recent trend of Nigerian assets being targeted abroad, including properties in Liverpool. The Federal Government has yet to officially comment on the matter.
