Six men died and three women were injured after stepping on a suspected explosive device in Sokoto’s Tangaza LGA, during Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
  • The explosion occurred on Sunday in Gwabro village, Sokoto.
  • Victims were reportedly visiting nearby villages for Eid traditions.
  • The bomb is believed to have been planted by the Lakurawa terrorist group.
  • Police confirmed six fatalities and three injured women.
  • The deceased have been buried; survivors are receiving hospital treatment.
What should have been a day of celebration turned into a scene of mourning for families in Tangaza. The Lakurawa group, a new but increasingly dangerous presence in Sokoto and Kebbi, may now be using improvised explosive devices to terrorise rural communities. The victims, mostly youths simply paying Eid visits, were not combatants, just civilians caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. As insecurity spreads, the human cost remains heartbreakingly high.

How many more innocent lives must be lost before rural terror cells like Lakurawa are rooted out? The time to strengthen grassroots intelligence and community protection is now.
