Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has written to the State Assembly, proposing March 19 for the 2025 budget presentation after being denied entry earlier. He urged lawmakers to prioritize governance over politics, emphasizing compliance with the Supreme Court ruling and the need for peace to ensure the state’s progress.

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally proposed March 19, 2025, for the presentation of the state’s budget, following a failed attempt due to restricted access to the State Assembly premises. In a letter to Speaker Martin Amaewhule, Fubara expressed frustration over the earlier blockade, despite fulfilling prior notification requirements.

The governor emphasized that his actions align with a Supreme Court judgment directing the Assembly to function within constitutional limits. He also referenced the lawmakers’ previous demand for the budget’s presentation within 48 hours, noting that it was made before he received the official court order.

Fubara reiterated his commitment to serving the people, calling on all government branches to prioritize the state’s development over political conflicts. He urged lawmakers to consider the well-being of Rivers residents and work towards peace and stability.

Meanwhile, the ongoing rift between the governor and the State Assembly has escalated, following the Supreme Court’s directive for the presentation of the 2025 budget. Last week, a tense moment unfolded when security personnel prevented Fubara and his team from accessing the Assembly premises, citing a lack of official communication.

During a separate event in Okrika Local Government Area, Fubara stressed the need for unity and reconciliation, urging all political stakeholders to respect the Supreme Court ruling. He called for collective efforts to ensure peace, stating that governance can only thrive in a stable environment.

With the new proposed date set, all eyes remain on the Assembly’s response and whether the impasse between the governor and lawmakers will finally be resolved.
