FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has revoked land allocations for 762 individuals, including high-profile figures like Abbas Tajudeen, Uba Sani, and Rochas Okorocha, due to unpaid bills. The revocations affect plots in Maitama 1 District and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory, with further threats to withdraw Rights of Occupancy.

In a significant land revocation move, 762 Nigerians, including high-profile figures, have lost their plots in Maitama 1 District and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The revocations were ordered by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike due to non-payment of outstanding bills on their plots. Wike also issued threats to revoke the Rights of Occupancy (Rs-of-O) of 614 other individuals and companies unless payments are made within two weeks.

Those affected by the revocation of Certificates of Occupancy (Cs-of-O) include:
  • Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives
  • Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State
  • Walter Onnoghen, former Chief Justice of Nigeria
  • Rochas Okorocha, former Governor of Imo State
  • Smart Adeyemi, Senator
  • Others, including former Governors, Senators, and prominent individuals across various sectors.
The revocation notices highlighted the failure of landowners, many of whom are serving and former public office holders, to settle outstanding fees. Corporate entities such as BUA Group and Julius Berger Nigeria were also included in the list of affected parties.

Wike emphasized that landowners must pay the outstanding bills within two weeks to avoid losing their Rights of Occupancy, in line with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which allows for the revocation of land in cases of non-payment of statutory fees.

The controversy surrounding the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation's revoked plot sparked a response from Shehu Garba, the media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, clarifying that the land belongs to the foundation and not to Buhari himself.

This move follows an earlier revocation announcement in September, signaling Wike's ongoing efforts to enforce reforms and curb land allocation irregularities in the FCT.
