Dangote Petroleum Refinery plans to start petrol supply by mid-September, undergoing test runs for production. Initial delays pushed back the timeline from June to August, but recent reports suggest the refinery remains on schedule. No petrol price has been fixed yet as operations commence.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is preparing to initiate petrol supply by mid-September, as reported by Reuters. Currently, the facility is undergoing test runs for petrol production, with the possibility of the launch date being postponed, according to insights from IIR Energy, an oil industry monitoring firm.

Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest person, initially stated that petrol production would start in June, aiming to eliminate Nigeria's dependence on fuel imports. However, minor delays have pushed the timeline to July and then to August. Recent reports suggested another delay, which was denied by Anthony Chiejina, the chief branding and communications officer for Dangote Group. He affirmed that the refinery is on track for its scheduled petrol output.

Chiejina also addressed circulating rumors about the petrol price, clarifying that no definitive price has been set yet, despite claims of it being N600 per litre. The commencement of local petrol production at Dangote Refinery is expected to significantly impact Nigeria's economy by reducing reliance on imported fuel and fostering self-sufficiency within the oil industry. As test runs continue, the industry is closely monitoring developments leading up to the anticipated September supply date.
