The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has issued a stern directive to Nigerian Army troops, emphasizing the need to confront and eliminate the Boko Haram terrorists responsible for widespread devastation in the northern regions.
Addressing troops of Operation Hadin Kai at the Maimalari cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno state, General Musa urged them to take a fiercely aggressive stance against the terrorist elements. He emphasized that no soldier could consider their duty complete until they had killed at least one Boko Haram fighter on the battlefield.
Musa emphasized the importance of proactively seeking out and eliminating the terrorists rather than merely responding to attacks, stating, "They should not be looking for us; we should be looking for them. Do not go and sit down until they attack and we repel; there is nothing like repel. Go and find and kill them."
Furthermore, General Musa disclosed that a reward system had been established by the Army and Defence Headquarters to recognize and honor troops who distinguish themselves in the fight against insurgency. He also issued a stern warning that soldiers caught selling arms and ammunition would face severe disciplinary actions.
In an effort to prevent war exhaustion, plans are underway to ensure that no soldier serves in the theatre of operation in the Northeast for more than two years.
