A group, Team New Nigeria (TNN), has flooded Kano with campaign posters for former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2027 elections. The move has sparked speculation about his political comeback. The group is working to formalize its registration as a political party and advocates for a fresh direction in Nigerian governance.

A fresh wave of political speculation has emerged in Kano State as a group known as Team New Nigeria (TNN) plastered campaign posters for former President Goodluck Jonathan in key locations, including the Gyadi-Gyadi/Zoo Road flyover, Kofar Nasarawa, and State Road. The posters, which feature Jonathan’s portrait and the slogan “Team New Nigeria 2027: The Goodluck Nigeria Needs—Dr Goodluck Jonathan,” have fueled speculation that the former president may be preparing to run for office again in the 2027 elections.

The initiative, spearheaded by Modibbo Yakubu Farakwai, leader of TNN, has raised eyebrows, as it remains unclear whether Jonathan has officially endorsed the group’s activities. Jonathan’s spokesperson, Okechukwu Eze, has not responded to inquiries for comment, leaving the situation shrouded in uncertainty.

In an interview with local journalists, Farakwai explained that the group’s actions were driven by a growing public demand for new leadership. “Nigerians are hungry for change and want a new direction in governance,” he said, emphasizing the group’s commitment to transforming the political landscape with fresh ideas and a new party.

TNN, which claims to have over 26 million registered voters, is actively working on formalizing its status as a political party. It has already developed a logo, manifesto, and constitution, and has engaged with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to begin the registration process. This move mirrors an earlier attempt in 2022 when Jonathan’s supporters sought to nominate him as a candidate under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) party for the 2023 elections. However, Jonathan ultimately distanced himself from that bid.

The unfolding developments suggest that TNN’s campaign could be a significant force in the 2027 presidential race, depending on Jonathan’s potential involvement.
