The Edo State House of Assembly has voted to impeach Philip Shaibu from his position as the Deputy Governor of the state. This decision follows the adoption of a report submitted by a seven-man investigative panel, headed by retired Justice S. A. Omonuwa, appointed by Chief Judge Daniel Okungbowa.
Shaibu's impeachment comes amidst a well-documented rift with Governor Godwin Obaseki, culminating in a series of legal battles initiated by Shaibu to prevent the impeachment process. Despite earlier legal injunctions, the court eventually cleared the way for the assembly's proceedings.
Shaibu's representation by prominent legal figure Oladoyin Awoyale, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), underscored the significance of the case.
This development marks a significant turn in Edo State's political landscape, prompting speculation about the implications for governance and future leadership dynamics in the region.
