Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State highlights the state’s capability to thrive independently due to strong internal revenue generation. At the inauguration of Olumo Courts in Abeokuta, he emphasized Ogun’s urban transformation initiatives aimed at boosting investment, creating jobs, and positioning the state as a self-sustaining economic hub.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State recently asserted that the state could prosper without financial support from the federal government, thanks to strong internally generated revenue (IGR) initiatives. Speaking in Abeokuta during the launch of the Olumo Courts serviced apartments, he highlighted Ogun's status as one of Nigeria's top revenue-generating states. According to a recent report from the National Bureau of Statistics, Ogun generated more revenue in 2023 than several other states in Nigeria, contributing to a national IGR growth of 26.5% from the previous year.

Governor Abiodun credited the development to his administration's focus on economic growth and urban renewal, particularly in Abeokuta’s Government Reserved Area (GRA). Despite initial criticism, he emphasized that the success of the Olumo Courts project affirms the positive impact of these initiatives. Featuring 36 luxury apartments and modern amenities such as a gym, pool, and tennis court, the project is expected to boost local employment and attract investment, particularly from the diaspora.

The governor also praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for supporting the project and reinforcing the administration's urban transformation goals. Additional endorsements came from prominent figures, including former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, who noted Abeokuta’s appeal as a city with unique geographic features, and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, who described Olumo Courts as an example of how urban upgrades can drive economic progress.
