Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed that the Osun State local government elections will proceed as scheduled, despite concerns raised by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF). Speaking to a delegation of civil society organizations in the state to monitor the polls, Adeleke assured that preparations were in place for a smooth electoral process.

He emphasized that Osun residents are eager to elect their local leaders, expressing confidence in the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for its efforts in organizing the election. According to the governor, multiple political parties are participating, ensuring a competitive and democratic process.

Addressing controversies surrounding the election, Adeleke stated that democracy is guided by the rule of law, and no individual or institution can override the authority of the courts. He urged all stakeholders, both within and outside the state, to respect democratic principles and avoid any form of disruption.

“The election will hold as planned, and its outcome will drive grassroots development. I encourage our people to maintain peace and participate actively in shaping their local governance,” he stated.

Adeleke reiterated that Osun remains a peaceful state and called for calm among residents, assuring that the election will be conducted fairly. His decision to proceed with the polls, despite legal concerns, has sparked debate among political observers, but the governor remains firm on his stance that the people’s right to vote must be upheld.
