Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has warned against unscheduled visits, stressing that safety cannot be ensured without prior approval from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA). The warning comes amid ongoing security challenges in the state, with attacks on several local government areas causing widespread damage and loss of life.
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has issued a stern warning, advising against unscheduled visits to the state. The governor emphasized that the safety of individuals cannot be assured if visits are made without prior coordination with the relevant authorities. This was conveyed in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.
According to the statement, those wishing to visit Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps in Benue must first seek formal approval from the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA). Governor Alia further clarified that any unscheduled political gatherings or assemblies, without prior approval, may result in security risks and public unrest.
The governor’s caution follows a series of violent attacks across various local government areas of the state, including Otukpo, Agatu, and Apa, which have led to loss of lives and destruction of properties. These incidents have heightened security concerns, prompting the government to tighten controls over uncoordinated visits.
Alia emphasized the importance of peace and order, urging security agencies and the public to abide by the directive to ensure the safety of everyone. The governor is currently in discussions with key state actors about measures to address the ongoing security challenges in the state.
