Governor Siminalayi Fubara appoints Eze Chike Worlu Wodo as Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, replacing King Sergeant Awuse. The move aims to revitalize the council's leadership, enhance cooperation with the state government, and promote peace and development across Rivers State.

In a significant reshuffle within the traditional leadership of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, the King of Apara Kingdom, as the new Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers. This decision replaces King Sergeant Awuse, a long-time ally of former Governor Nyesom Wike, who hails from the same Obio/Akpor Local Government Area as Wodo.

Governor Fubara's move comes after he cited "inactivity and the absence of effective leadership" under Awuse’s tenure. The governor highlighted Awuse's failure to foster a harmonious relationship among council members and with the state government. One notable issue was the council's omission of the governor's and deputy governor's photographs from the 2024 calendar, which Fubara viewed as a deliberate slight.

Eze Wodo, who recently pledged his support for Fubara's administration, is seen as a more capable and unifying figure. His appointment is expected to bring new vigor and direction to the council, addressing critical issues such as local disputes and community development. Fubara emphasized the importance of traditional rulers in maintaining peace and supporting government initiatives, urging the new chairman to immediately convene a meeting to unite the council.

Awuse, who became a traditional ruler two years ago and was appointed council chairman by Wike, marked his first year in the role last June. Despite his political prominence, his leadership faced criticism for lacking engagement and failing to meet expectations.

In his acceptance speech, Eze Wodo expressed gratitude and a commitment to unity and cooperation with the state government. He pledged to work diligently to foster peace and development across Rivers State, ensuring the council plays a pivotal role in the state's progress.
