Rivers Governor Fubara reveals he never expected to last a month in office due to intense political turmoil, thanking God for helping navigate challenges during turbulent first year.

In a candid admission, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has revealed that he never expected to last even a month in office, given the intense political crisis that erupted shortly after his inauguration on May 29, 2023.

Fubara made these remarks during a Church Thanksgiving ceremony held on Sunday to mark the conclusion of activities celebrating his first anniversary as governor.

"Some two months ago, nobody would have believed that we will be seated here to say, 'God, thank You that we are able to navigate this troubled water to this point,'" Fubara stated, underscoring the challenges his administration has faced since taking office.

The governor's tenure was marred by turmoil from the outset, with a fire incident at the State House of Assembly on October 30, 2023, igniting a broader political crisis in the state.

Fubara emphasized that plans were orchestrated to frustrate his administration, even as preparations were underway for the first anniversary celebrations.

"You won't understand. I can tell you in good authority that even before we started this programme, there was every plan to frustrate us. But to the glory of God, we are all gathered here to say, 'God, thank You, that You have carried us and led us to this point,'" he said.

Despite the challenges, Fubara expressed gratitude for the support he has received and vowed not to betray the trust bestowed upon him by the people of Rivers State. He assured that governance under his leadership would continue to improve year by year.

"Now, if we have God by our side, do we have any problem? I want to thank everyone of you that are here to support us," Fubara said, emphasizing his reliance on divine guidance and the backing of the people.

As Fubara begins his second year in office, the focus will be on whether he can navigate the political obstacles and deliver on his governance agenda, restoring stability and progress to a state that has experienced significant turmoil during his inaugural year.
