Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, passed away on January 23, 2025, at 82 after a prolonged illness. Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang announced his death, mourning the loss of the elder statesman and offering condolences to his family and the nation.
Governor Mutfwang lauded General Useni’s distinguished career, which spanned decades of service in the military and politics. His contributions included roles as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. In his political career, he served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and, later, as a Senator representing Plateau South under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.
General Useni was celebrated for his leadership, dedication to peace in Northern Nigeria, and efforts to enhance national security. The Governor described him as a beacon of compassion, kindness, and commitment to the well-being of others.
