A tragic multiple-vehicle crash near Kara Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has resulted in the death of one individual and caused severe traffic congestion in the area. The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning, around 3:00 a.m., when a truck carrying steel coils collided with a 40-foot container. The collision caused the container’s head to detach, completely blocking the road in both directions.
As a result, numerous vehicles were stranded in the heavy gridlock that followed the crash, disrupting traffic flow and pedestrian movement in the area. Emergency responders, including personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Police, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation.
According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, the truck driver lost control in an attempt to avoid the container, resulting in the truck overturning and spilling its cargo of steel coils onto the highway. Tragically, the driver of the truck, whose identity remains unknown, lost his life in the crash. His body was removed before the emergency team arrived.
While the scene has been cleared and the road is now reopened, traffic delays persist, with motorists advised to use alternative routes such as Ikorodu Road, Sagamu Road, and the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to avoid further congestion.
