Labour Party’s Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV) has condemned the use of force in the Lagos Assembly crisis, calling on President Tinubu to caution ex-Speaker Obasa. He criticized APC’s tactics, urging a peaceful resolution. GRV also demanded an EFCC probe into corruption allegations against Obasa.

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour (GRV), a prominent member of the Labour Party, has sharply criticized the violent tactics used in the Lagos State House of Assembly, labeling the actions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “show of shame.” Speaking on Channels Television, GRV condemned the use of armed security officers to intimidate Speaker Mojisola Meranda into resigning. He decried the tactics as unacceptable, urging President Bola Tinubu and the APC Governors’ Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos to intervene and caution former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, whose removal has sparked a bitter leadership crisis in the Assembly.

The standoff at the Assembly reached its peak when security officials, including members of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services, blocked Meranda’s access to the chamber for several hours. Despite the heavy security presence, Meranda presided over the plenary and was visibly emotional as the Assembly passed a vote of confidence in her leadership.

GRV emphasized that the use of force to settle political disputes was a disgrace to Lagos’ political landscape and called for civilized methods to resolve such conflicts. He also questioned the lack of accountability regarding the corruption allegations against Obasa, urging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate these claims. GRV’s remarks add fuel to the ongoing tension, as the leadership battle in the Assembly continues to unfold.
