The police special squad, while investigating with a previously arrested kidnap suspect, was ambushed by a suspected arms supplier to the gang at Ewu Community. The assailants aimed to free their captured accomplice, but the police responded forcefully, resulting in a gunfight.
During the exchange, one suspect was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at the General Hospital in Ughelli. The police recovered a Beretta pistol with four live rounds, a pump-action shotgun with nine cartridges, and a locally made revolver pump-action gun from the scene. The police are currently pursuing the remaining gang members, who fled into the bush with injuries.
