A fresh attack by gunmen has occurred in Otobi, a community located in the Akpa district of Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA), Benue State. The attack, which took place around 5:30 pm on Tuesday, has led to the death of an unconfirmed number of individuals and left many others fleeing the area in panic. Local police spokesperson, Sewuese Anene, confirmed the attack to TheCable but mentioned that no further details were available as police officers had just been dispatched to the scene and had not yet sent a report.

This assault is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Benue, where there has been a rise in killings and kidnappings attributed to gunmen. On April 10, gunmen killed three individuals in the Mbasombo community of Gwer East LGA, and earlier in March, thirteen people were killed in an attack by suspected herders in Katsina Ala LGA. These recurring violent incidents have sparked unrest among the people, leading to protests. Just earlier this month, residents of Otukpo staged a demonstration demanding government action to curb the rising insecurity that has been plaguing the region.
