Gunmen, allegedly led by notorious bandit leader Danisuhu, have imposed a N172.7 million levy on 25 villages in the Tsafe West area of Zamfara State. The bandits have also demanded contributions in kind, including soybeans while threatening violence against those who fail to comply.

This has led to mass displacement, with many villagers fleeing their homes to escape potential reprisals. A local source described the situation as dire, stating that the inability to meet the demands often results in brutal attacks, forcing residents to abandon their homes and livelihoods. The affected villages face significant economic and emotional turmoil as they struggle to meet the imposed levies.

Despite improved security along the Funtua-Tsafe axis, rural villages in Tsafe West continue to suffer from the bandits’ actions. Residents have urgently appealed for more security personnel and the establishment of permanent posts to protect them from the ongoing threats. Additionally, emergency relief is required to assist the displaced victims of this crisis.
