The Nigerian Army made history by promoting Hajara Egbunu to the rank of Army Warrant Officer (WO), marking a significant milestone for women in the military. The decoration ceremony was held in Abuja on Friday, led by Mathias Amatso, Commander of the Nigerian Army Women's Command (NAWC).

Egbunu's promotion is groundbreaking as she is the first female soldier from the elite Infantry Corps and the NAWC to achieve this prestigious rank. The role of an Army Warrant Officer represents the pinnacle for non-commissioned officers and serves as the entry-level rank among commissioned officers.

Commander Amatso praised Egbunu’s exceptional dedication, discipline, and effectiveness, emphasizing that her promotion is a testament to her outstanding service record. He encouraged her to continue serving as an inspiration for younger soldiers and to uphold the core values of the Nigerian Army.

Egbunu’s achievement highlights the growing recognition of women’s contributions within military leadership and operational roles. It sets a precedent for future generations of female soldiers aspiring to excel in traditionally male-dominated fields.

The ceremony featured senior officers, colleagues, and family members who celebrated Egbunu's historic accomplishment. Her promotion reinforces the Nigerian Army's commitment to promoting excellence and fostering inclusivity within its ranks.
