Achraf Hakimi’s mother, Saida Mouh, has shared her thoughts following her son’s loss to Ademola Lookman at the 2024 CAF Player of the Year Awards. The event, held in Marrakesh, saw Lookman clinch the title after a standout season with Atalanta and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Hakimi, a nominee alongside Ronwen Hayden-Williams, Simon Adingra, and Sehrou Guirassy, had high hopes of winning. With achievements like a Ligue 1 title with PSG and leading Morocco to third place at the Paris Olympics, he seemed a strong contender. Saida revealed that Hakimi was confident of victory, prompting her to travel from Turkey to Marrakesh for the ceremony.

"My son asked me to come urgently, believing he would win. Perhaps he was informed beforehand, but the award ultimately went to Lookman," Saida told Al-Araby.

Despite the setback, Saida emphasized Hakimi’s maturity, stating he has quickly moved on. She noted that the love and support from Moroccan and Arab fans mean more to him than any accolade. She expressed optimism about his future, highlighting upcoming opportunities like the 2025 African Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Hakimi’s focus has shifted back to Paris Saint-Germain, where his performances continue to shine. With top players like Mohamed Salah, Victor Osimhen, and Lookman also in contention, the race for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year promises to be fierce. Saida remains confident in her son’s potential for future success.
