Former Sports Minister Sunday Dare defended President Tinubu's subsidy removal, praising his commitment to reforms that previous leaders avoided. Despite rising fuel prices affecting Nigerians, Dare urged patience and recognition of Tinubu's efforts to stabilize the economy, emphasizing the necessity of these bold changes for long-term improvement.

In a recent interview, Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser on Public Communication to President Bola Tinubu, defended the administration’s controversial reforms, specifically the removal of fuel subsidies. Speaking on Channels TV, Dare emphasized that President Tinubu deserves recognition for implementing changes that previous leaders failed to execute despite promises.

He described the subsidy as a significant drain on Nigeria's resources, benefiting only a select few. Under Tinubu's leadership, the removal of the subsidy has resulted in a surge in fuel prices, skyrocketing from around N200 to over N1,000 per liter, greatly impacting many Nigerians reliant on this essential commodity.

Dare praised Tinubu's dedication and work ethic, highlighting that he often stays up late—sometimes until 5 a.m.—to tackle the nation’s issues. He argued that these bold reforms, while challenging, are necessary steps toward rectifying Nigeria's longstanding economic problems.

According to Dare, Tinubu’s willingness to take the “road less traveled” reflects a commitment to meaningful governance, even if it leads to short-term hardship for the populace. He urged the public to be patient and recognize the president's efforts to stabilize the economy and fulfill his promises, despite the backlash against the rising cost of living and the strain on citizens’ finances.
