During a night of tribute in Lagos, Sola Faleye, the Personal Assistant to the late Access Bank CEO, Herbert Wigwe, shared a harrowing account of narrowly escaping the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, their first son Chizzy, and businessman Abimbola Ogunbajo on February 9. Faleye revealed that after a trip from Nigeria to London, the group flew to Palm Springs airport in California, intending to continue to Vegas by helicopter.
Concerned about flying a chopper at night in the U.S., Faleye had asked his boss about it, to which Wigwe reassured him, stating, "This is America; they have a navigation system for flying chopper at night." Upon landing at Palm Springs, they were informed that the chopper couldn't accommodate everyone and their luggage. Faleye volunteered to travel by road with the luggage, while the others boarded the ill-fated helicopter.
During the journey, Faleye attempted to contact them but couldn't reach anyone. Later, he received the devastating news that the chopper had crashed, resulting in the loss of all onboard lives.
The night of tribute became a poignant moment as Faleye recounted the tragedy, highlighting the surreal circumstances that spared his life but claimed the lives of his boss and companions.
