The City of David Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Lagos has suspended Pastor Idowu Iluyomade following the extravagant birthday celebration of his wife shortly after the tragic death of Herbert Wigwe, former Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc.
Iluyomade's suspension comes amid public outcry against the lavish party, with the decision made by the church's governing council to investigate allegations against him. Meanwhile, Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish has been appointed as his replacement.
Wigwe, who passed away in a helicopter crash alongside his family members and another prominent figure, was a member of the City of David Parish, making the timing of the extravagant celebration controversial.
Despite glowing tributes to Wigwe's philanthropy and contributions to the church, concerns were raised about the propriety of holding such a lavish event so soon after his tragic demise.
