Kano's Hisbah board has arrested Jigawa commissioner Auwal Sankara for allegedly engaging in an affair with a married woman and operating illegal drug centers. Following a complaint by the woman's husband, Sankara was caught at an unfinished building. Legal proceedings are set to begin on Monday.

Kano state's Hisbah board has apprehended Auwal Danladi Sankara, Jigawa's commissioner for special duties, over allegations of an illicit affair with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu. The arrest came after Nasiru Bulama, the woman’s husband, reported the commissioner’s involvement with his wife to local authorities.

Abba Sufi, director general of the Kano Hisbah board, confirmed the arrest occurred at an unfinished building owned by Sankara in Kano. Hisbah operatives had been monitoring the commissioner following Bulama's complaint, which led to Sankara being caught at the scene.

In addition to accusations of an affair, Sankara is also implicated in running illegal drug dens under the guise of hotel businesses. These locations, including places named Picklock and 360, are reportedly hubs for drug-related activities and prostitution, according to Sufi.

The arrest of Sankara, a prominent political figure, has drawn significant attention in both Jigawa and Kano states. Local law enforcement agencies, including the Kano Police Command and the Department of State Services (DSS), are involved in the investigation.

The Hisbah board has announced that legal proceedings against the commissioner will begin on Monday. Sankara is expected to face multiple charges, not only for the alleged affair but also for operating illegal drug centers.

This development has sparked a heated debate about public officials' conduct and the enforcement of moral and legal standards.
