In a distressing turn of events, Professor Godwin Emezue, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Uturu, was abducted by hoodlums on Friday in Umuekwu Amachara, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to statements from the Abia State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the abduction occurred while the DVC was purchasing fuel at a petrol station with his wife. The assailants not only confiscated his wife's ATM card but also forcibly took the Deputy Vice-Chancellor into a Lexus SUV before driving away.
The police have launched a comprehensive effort, deploying resources and assets to uncover the perpetrators and ensure the safe rescue of the victim. While urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement, the incident underscores the pressing need for enhanced security measures to safeguard academic leaders and the broader community.
