Athan Achonu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for Imo State, affirmed that even incumbent Governor Hope Uzodimma's wealth cannot deter him from pursuing his political ambition. Addressing speculations that he might be a placeholder candidate, Achonu emphasized that he is committed to his gubernatorial aspirations.
In an interview on Channels Television's "Politics Today," Achonu stated, "The people of Imo State already know the truth. They are following me. How can I be a placeholder for Hope Uzodimma? Give me $1 million? That’s not possible."
A respected former lawmaker, Achonu, asserted his reputation, integrity, and his determination to stand firm in the race. He declared, "Hope Uzodimma can’t buy me even with $100 million. It is not possible. Nobody can buy me. Money can’t buy me."
Achonu initially had no intention of running for the governorship but responded to the appeals of his supporters and his desire to bring positive change to Imo State. He expressed concern about the difficulties faced by entrepreneurs in the South-East and his mission to create a better environment for investments.
